Designing for the 21'st Century
Visualizing a three dimentional object from a series of flat elevation drawings is not nearly as easy as one would think. Even professionals who work with construction drawings on a daily basis have to scratch their heads at times. It comes as no suprize then that there is often a sense of disappointment in clients who build homes from these drawings without ever having seen a model of the home. Thats the reason architectural firms would spend the time and money to build scale models of projects in the planning phase. However, for the average person, this type of planning unfortunately is out of reach.
Not anymore.
With the advancements in design software, it is now not only cost effective, but in my opinion downright foolish to not view a model of any proposed home. Too many times what looked good in a flat drawing seems to loose its apeal when fleshed out in 3-D.
I've had more than one experience of building from a customers stock plan that they picked out, and as the structure went up, according to the plan, the customer would comment that it did not "look like they thought it would."
In the years since I've been involved in Design-Build, utilizing the cutting edge of design technology, the client response is more along the lines of, "I feel like I've been here before."
